Glittering Stars offers high school students one of the most rewarding internships. As a participant, you will be able to learn to roller figure skate with other high school girls your age. This is all while participating in a business administration, performance and coaching internship program earning a part-time income.




About Our Roller Figure Skating Club's Internship Program

Skating Lessons in

The Glittering Stars Roller Figure Skating program in Toronto is an internship for high school girls between the ages of 13 and 18. The program provides these skaters with figure skating lessons, allows them to lead their team during formation skating drills and work together as a coaching team to teach beginner children how to roller skate. This program also offers skaters roller figure skating instruction, a part-time income and advancement opportunities.

This program is made possible with the assistance of Development and Sports Canada. It is designed to give more internship opportunities for girls that are in secondary school while growing this underdeveloped sport in Canada. By participating in this Roller Figure Skating program in Toronto, these skaters will receive training that can be used to advance their careers in Business Administration, Coaching and Performance. Skaters that participate in this program will assist in the growth and heritage of the roller skating sport while they acquire leadership, group working, critical thinking and roller figure skating skills.

How to Become a Glittering Star

In order to become a Glittering Star, applicants must be a high school student between 13 and 18 years of age. Applicants will be required to provide their Student ID Card issued by their Secondary School. This program is for beginners only, therefor applicants DO NOT need any previous skating experience.

Step 1 - Complete an application for an interview.   APPLICATION FORM

Step 2 - Attend the interview, in person and independently. This will take anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes. Parents and/or friends ARE NOT permitted to be present during the interview. Applicants will be explained what will be expected of them to successfully complete the training program, the program's terms will also be reviewed and the applicant's suitability will be assessed. This suitability is assessed by the applicant's interest in the program, ability to operate independently, willingness to participate in the program and their determination to complete the training.

Step 3 - Selected applicants will be notified by phone and/or e-mail. Applicants will then be assigned a starting day and required to bring in their signed parental consent form in order to start participating.

Step 4 - Applicants will then be required to complete a 6 Month (200 Hour / 20 Day) intensive paid selection program. This pay is conditional to the successful completion of this selection program and does not require or guarantee acceptance into the Glittering Stars Roller Figure Skating Internship. All equipment including skates, uniform, accessories, meals and instruction is provided during selection, and for the duration of the internship. During this selection, applicants will receive learn to roller skate instruction, introduction into figure skating and introduced into all of the participation aspects of the program.

Step 5 - In order to be considered for the program, applicants, as a team with the other applicants in the selection program, will have to successfully complete the following three tasks; A formation skate, organize a learn to roller skate program for children, and coach this program. This is in addition to the full completion of all of the minimum time requirements.

Our learn to skate lessons are specifically designed for beginners. These start skaters off with the basics of skating and get them skating on their own with the proper skating techniques right from the beginning. These skating lessons are designed for tots, children, teens and adults that are learning how to skate. These skating lessons are perfect for skaters that want to learn on their own or for parents that want to help teach their children how to skate on their own in .

STAR 1 = $1000 p/season
STAR 2 = $1200 p/season
STAR 3 = $1400 p/season
STAR 4 = $1600 p/season

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS COMPLIANCE
The Glittering Stars is a vocational and training based internship program. As per the Employment Standards Act (ESA), where the program is spent training skaters to their benefit, this program exceeds the minimum requriements where the total salary is greater than minimum wage when considering only the hours skaters spend working.
Participation Requirements & Schedule

Training - Wednesdays and Fridays 4:00PM - 9:00PM
Flight 1 - Saturdays 11:00AM - 9:00PM
Flight 2 - Sundays 11:00AM - 9:00PM

The Glittering Stars program is divided into four seasons throughout the year: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. Each season is 3 months long and has 10 scheduled weeks, each week has 10 hours totalling 100 requried participation hours each season and a total of 400 required participation hours each year. Skaters are required to complete all of these hours to receive their pay benefits.

There are many opportunities throughout the year for skaters to earn additional income and to complete makeup time for absences during holidays, PA Days and school breaks. During this time skaters are expected to participate in advancing their roller figure skating skills, formation skating, coaching, physical conditioning and organizing learn to roller skate programs for children.

Each season skaters will have the opportunity to submit a skills test to advance their Star Level. Each Star Level has a set required elements that need to be completed. Skaters are not disqualified from the program for failing a test, however skaters are required to continue to work towards advancing their Star Levels as part of their participation requirements in the program.
